Trakošćan is a picturesque medieval castle in northern Croatia, renowned for its stunning architecture and picturesque setting. Built in the 13th century, it is situated on a hill overlooking an artificial lake, surrounded by a forest park. Originally a defensive fortress, the castle fell into disrepair in the 18th century, but was beautifully restored in the mid-19th century in the spirit of German romanticism. This period also saw the creation of the English-style park and lake that surround the castle today.
