ABOUT ME

I am an enthusiastic award-winning amateur photographer based in the South-West of England with a real drive for creating a broad range of images.

I've been taking pictures for most of my adult life, but over the last 10 years or so I've started to consider myself a photographer in the artistic sense of the word.

Winchester Cathedral is among the largest of its kind in Northern Europe, and was built from 1079 to 1532. With an overall length of 558 feet (170 m), it is the longest medieval cathedral in the world, and with an area of 53,480 square feet (4,968 m2), it is also the sixth-largest cathedral by area in the UK. A major tourist attraction, the cathedral attracts nearly 400,000 visitors each year

The low-vaulted stone crypt was created during the earliest phase of building Winchester Cathedral back in the 11th century and are frequently subjected to floods. During heavy rainfall, and especially during the wetter months of the year, the rooms flood leaving an ethereal sculpture located in the vault half submerged.

Created by renowned sculpture Sir Anthony Gormley, the "Sound II" is a figure made of sheets of lead. Based on a cast made around Gormley's own body, the final statue stands with its hands out front in a begging pose knee deep in flood water during the wetter months of the year creating a reflection on the crypt floor.
