While shooting a nearby crop circle, I managed catch this absolutely gorgeous golden hour lighting.
This is Ashdown House, tucked away in a beautiful little valley in the Berkshire Downs. If you’ve never stumbled across it, feels like someone dropped a striking, Dutch-style toy house right into the middle of the English countryside.
I caught this just after 8:30 PM. The way the low sun stretches the shadows of the trees and that parterre garden across the lawn is exactly why it pays to wait out the evening light.
I used bracketed shots and HDR to handle the massive contrast between the bright, sunlit ridges in the background and the deep greens of the woodland. Kept the colours warm and true to how that summer glow actually felt.
The views from up here really show off the isolation of the estate. It’s crazy to think how unchanged these hills look compared to centuries ago.
